William the Baptist Updated and With an Introduction by Ian Hodge PhD edition by James Chaney Ian Hodge Religion Spirituality eBooks

Published in the latter half of the nineteenth century, William the Baptist was written to defend paedobaptism. However, this book is really not about baptism. While that is the topic under discussion, William the Baptist is really a book about how to read the Bible.

This is an excellent work that gives a sincere demonstration of how to interpret the Sciptures with Scripture. Even if someone disagrees with the positions presented here, the process is done correctly and Biblically. I think all people who wish to discuss the topic of baptism must read this book because it is to easy to build strawmen out of the opposition and dash them to pieces. Having been both Presbyterian and Baptist, I have seen both sides of the arguement. This book also presents a short, but strong case for unity between the old and new dipensation.Product details

William the Baptist Updated and With an Introduction by Ian Hodge PhD edition by James Chaney Ian Hodge Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
This book is a very good book on the subject of Baptism.
Although I was not convinced by the author's arguments regarding the Presbyterian mode of baptism, the book does an excellent job of describing clearly why Presbyterians believe as they do regarding baptism.
Great little classic. It clarifies the work of the holy spirit as symbolized by baptism.
This book is an enjoyable read, written in a conversational format. A young lawyer, William, marries a Presbyterian lady. William is Baptist by profession and holds to baptism by immersion and only to professing believers. Because he wants to join his wife's church so they may worship together on the Lord's Day, he decides to meet with Presbyterian pastor to discuss baptism.
If you struggle to understand why immersion is not Biblical, or you would like to better explain paedo baptism, this would be an extremely helpful read. I highly recommend it. Make sure as you read that you have a note pad to write down the many scriptures as well as the line of thought and reasoning that the Presbyterian pastor takes William through.
very helpful. I cant say I'm 100 percent settled on the subject, but i found this little book to be clear and concise. It seems to give a fair conversation albeit perhaps a bit tilted. most of the material presented is pretty solid. sometimes with debated topics a book is full of cheap shots and straw men, but this was not my take on this one. I'd like to go through it a little slower and take some notes this time, outline it. check things out. I'm almost a presbyterian.
